Emotional Support Animals: When Companionship Supports Mental Health

Sometimes, emotional support comes with four paws and unconditional love. š¾
Our mental health plays an important role in how we navigate everyday life. For some individuals experiencing emotional or psychological challenges, the companionship of an animal can provide a meaningful source of comfort, stability, and support.
What Is an Emotional Support Animal (ESA)?
An emotional support animal (ESA) is an animal that provides therapeutic emotional support to an individual with a qualifying mental health condition or disability. ESAs may help individuals cope with symptoms associated with anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health challenges.
Unlike service animals, which are specifically trained to perform tasks related to a person's disability, emotional support animals do not require specialized task training. Their primary role is to provide comfort and emotional support through companionship.
It is important to understand that emotional support animals are NOT the same as service animals and do not have the same public-access rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). However, qualifying individuals may be entitled to certain housing accommodations under the Fair Housing Act.
Now Offering Emotional Support Animal Assessments! š¾
At Mental Logic Counseling Services, we understand that mental health support comes in many forms. We are pleased to offer Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Assessments to help determine whether an ESA may be clinically appropriate as part of an individual's mental health care.
Our assessments are conducted with compassion, professionalism, and careful consideration of each individual's mental health needs. ESA documentation may be provided when clinically appropriate based on the assessment findings.
Your Mental Health Matters. Your Support Matters.
